Liverpool Music Week 2008

Liverpool Music Week in partnership with MTV and edc by Esprit is the UK’s biggest indoor winter music festival, staging events across 20+ venues throughout Liverpool city centre, with a combination of ticketed shows and a massive agenda of free events featuring every musical genre imaginable.

Sense of Sound has hosted events at Liverpool Music Week for the last three years and is delighted to be involved once again in 2008 with two fantastic FREE events:

FREE! SENSE OF SOUND VOCAL TECHNIQUE MASTERCLASS WITH JENNIFER JOHN

Saturday 1st November, 2pm-5pm at the Bluecoat, Liverpool

  • Are you a solo artist or in a band and wish to improve your vocal technique?
  • Does your voice get tired or croaky after gigs?
  • Do you wish you had more vocal power and control?
  • Does your voice break when you try to sing higher notes?Is your falsetto weak?

JETTA - An innovative, soulful blend of bittersweet melodies and euphonies to make you melt. An inspirational young talent with a beautiful sense of musicality.

BBC Radio Three’s Free Thinking Festival 2008

BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking Festival is back in Liverpool from 31st October to 2nd November 2008, with conversation, film, performance, drama and debate about the ideas that are changing the world.

Sing Up Greenwich Launch

Sense of Sound is delighted to announce the launch of Sing Up Greenwich - an ambitious eighteen month programme of singing activity for children and young people both in and out of school that is being led by Sense of Sound and Greenwich Theatre.

Sing Up is a new government funded programme of singing activity designed primarily for primary school-aged children in the UK which aims to make singing central to children’s lives, in school, in the home and in the wider community.

Sing Up Greenwich is the only Sing Up community in London.

The launch event, which takes place this afternoon at Greenwich Theatre, will introduce Sense of Sound and Greenwich Theatre and our plans for the Sing Up community in Greenwich. There will also be a performance by children from Brooklands Primary School and we will provide people and organisations with ways in which they too can get involved.

FANTASTIC NEW SINGING COURSES IN LIVERPOOL AND LONDON

It’s that time of year again when the Autumn musical season begins and we have some exciting new singing courses planned especially for you!!!

Fresh from Sense of Sound Choir’s successful appearance in BBC One’s Last Choir Standing, members of the choir will be teaching on the Singing with Confidence and Singing in Harmony courses which is extremely exciting. Check us out here to see the style and quality you can expect.

The ever popular courses will offer you the chance to develop your vocal technique, meet like-minded people who wish to find their confidence and improve their singing and also explore performance skills!!!

FABULOUS FREE SINGING DAY WITH SENSE OF SOUND AT BLUECOAT IN LIVERPOOL CITY CENTRE - SUNDAY AUGUST 10th!!!!

Sense of Sound Choir is down to the final 6 on Last Choir Standing!!!!!!!

Tune into BBC1 at 7.00pm on Saturday 9 August to witness another passionate performance.

To celebrate this achievement Sense of Sound have decided to host a FREE day of singing workshops which will be led by various members of the choir on Sunday 10 August at the Bluecoat.

There will also be a question and answer session with the choir where you can find out first hand the inside news about their Last Choir Standing experience. The icing on the cake will be the opportunity to sing with Sense of Sound Choir at the end of the day.

Sense of Sound’s Jennifer John comments “We are doing this to share our good fortune with the people of Liverpool who have totally supported us through this whole competition and also to make sure that we fly the flag for our fair city in this European Capital of Culture.

“We would love you all to come and join in the day with us and would ask that you encourage all your family and friends to do the same. Children are very welcome.”

The free singing day will break down as follows:

12.00-12.30pm Registration for workshops

12.30-1.30pm Workshop 1

1.30-1.45pm Break

1.45-2.45pm Workshop 2

2.45-3.00pm Break

3.00-3.25pm Sense of Sound choir perform

3.25-3.40pm Q&A with Sense of Sound Choir

15.40-16.00 Group performance

Four singing workshops will be available (attendees can book for 2, on a first come first served basis), Spanish, Norwegian, R&B/pop, and African.

As this event is likely to be very busy, we advise you to register to ensure your place. SENSE OF SOUND CHOIR IN FINAL 6 OF LAST CHOIR STANDING ON BBC1 ON SATURDAY 9th AUGUST!!!

Our amazing Sense of Sound Choir is in the final 6 in the latter stages of this new BBC ONE entertainment progamme, LAST CHOIR STANDING! How fantastic is that!!!!!!

We have surpassed ourselves and according to the judges, Russell Watson, Sharon D Clarke and Suzy Digby OBE our “classy performances” mean we are going from strength to strength. This is no mean feat when you consider that around 900 choirs across the UK entered the competition.

Due to the wonderful vocal arrangements of the choir’s musical director, Perri Alleyne-Hughes, Sense of Sound’s unique rendition of Justin Timberlake’s, Cry Me a River has totally impressed the nation. Royal Opera House Performances

The fantastic Damon Albarn opera, Monkey: Journey to the West, makes its London debut next week in the world famous Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Sense of Sound is delighted to be providing the singers for the spectacle which has already taken them to the first ever Manchester International Festival and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

This reworked version is a dazzling exhibition involving nearly 40 circus acrobats, martial artists and singers with an orchestra of Western and traditional Chinese instruments. Performed in Mandarin with English surtitles, Monkey is a thrilling experience, an unforgettable sensual and spiritual journey.

The show runs from 23rd-26th July and tickets are available from the box office on 020 7304 4000 or through the Royal Opera House website.

Sense of Sound Choir on BBC1 at 7.45pm on Saturday 5th July

Our wonderful choir will appear on the new BBC1 programme The Last Choir Standing which starts at 7.45pm tomorrow evening, Saturday 5th July.

This prime time TV show, hosted by Myleene Klass and Nick Knowles, will show some fantastic choirs battling it out to become the Last Choir Standing.

The judges are Russell Watson, Sharon D Clarke and Suzy Digby.

Tune in on Saturday 5th July at 7.45pm to watch the battle commence and please wish Sense of Sound loads of luck in our quest to show the nation what we are made of and become the Last Choir Standing!!!

Singing in Harmony Group Performance - Wednesday 2nd July

Sense of Sound invites you to a celebration of all things vocal on Wednesday 2nd July at the Bluecoat, School Lane, Liverpool city centre.

Come along to the Bluecoat this Wednesday evening to listen to the wonderful final performance by Sense of Sound’s most recent graduates of the Singing in Harmony Course in Liverpool. The group, which sounds amazing, has been training together for the last 12 weeks and will be showcasing their a cappella set in this final performance.

With additional special guest performances, it’s going to be a fantastic musical evening in the wonderful setting of the newly refurbished Bluecoat.

Please do come along and show your support!

Entry is £5 and the doors open at 7.30pm for a 8.00pm start.

Sense of Sound Choir at Glastonbury

We are very excited about our trip to Glastonbury this weekend where Sense of Sound Choir will be opening the Jazz World Stage on Sunday 29th June. We will be performing a fantastic mixture of old and new repertoire in our unique a cappella style. It’s going to be a great gig so make sure that you come and say hello and watch the show if you are at the festival.

Later that day, we are getting together with our friends from Greenpeace to provide the music for their ‘Alternative Wedding Ceremonies’ which take place on the Greenpeace field at 3pm.

We hope you can be there to join in the fun!!!
